One of the most significant annual cultural events of recent decades attracts thousands of visitors and provides museums with an opportunity to present themselves to one of the main target groups – avid culture lovers. It’s a possibility to directly inform people about innovations, new books, events and educational programs. Participation of Assocciation of Lithuanian Museums is being funded by the Minisitry of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania and Lithuanian Council for Culture.
For the first time Association of Lithuanian Museums got involved in International Vilnius Book Fair in the year 2012 – the year Museums in Lithuania. National Museum of Lithuania, Lithuanian Art Museum and National Museum Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania usually participate in the Fair by themselves and many other museums unite under the umbrella of Association of Lithuanian Museums. First year visitors were attracted not only by books but by educational events also. One could forge a coin of Year of Museums or try out Johan Gutenberg’s invention by themselves and print a text they wish. Young visitors were welcome in Sigutė Chlebnickaitė creative workshop “You Can Create a Book”. In 2013 Museums’ stand was mostly memorable by visitors for an improvised photo studio “Stop the Moment!”. During the 2014 Fair museums shifted their focus on younger audiences and provided children with opportunity of immersing in the world of history, book and literature through the vivacious project called “MuMo Classics”. Children cooperating with educators have created animation reviving characters of K. Donelaitis’ fables.

Lithuanian Museums participated in International Vilnius Book Fair 2020, 20 –23 February. For the ninth time, the Lithuanian Association of Museums together with 34 Lithuanian museums  communicated new museums books and activities. An inclusive program has been produced for the guests of the 21st Fair: nearly 250 publications, 6 recent book presentations, shadow theater performance, educational performances and the installation “Museums Without Formulas: Images, Sounds, Virtual Reality”, which introduced museum activities OTHERWISE. The focus of museums as well as the 21st fair are the words of a well-known Lithuanian and world artist Jonas Mekas: “You should live without formulas. To be open to the world.”
