Development of the 21st Century Museologist’s Qualifications and Capabilities

During the year of 2006-2008 Lithuanian Association of Museums implemented a project called “Development of the 21st Century Museologist’s Qualifications and Capabilities”. Nowadays it becomes clear that a museum as an active and successful center of social life and education can become due to people working in it only. To be more specific – their professional and social qualifications. The aim the training of museums’ specialists and administrators is to improve their qualification in common, professional and social fields. Both European Social Fund and Lituanian State funded this project with 3,88 million Litas. There were learning programs developed and implemented in four different fields: museology, administrative capabilities, informational technologies and foreign languages. Solid bunch of museums brought themselves together to participate in this project: National M. K. Čiurlionis Art Museum, Šiauliai “Aušra” Museum, Trakai History Museum, Lithuanian Theatre, Music and Cinema Museum, Lithuanian Sea Museum, Alytus Local Lore Museum, Kėdainiai Regional Museum, Lithuania Minor History Museum, Vilkaviškis Regional Museum and Raseiniai Area History Museum.
Inspired by it’s succsess During the year of 2009-2011. Lithuanian Association of Museums together with is partners took their efforts further and implemented another project called “Development of the 21st Century Museologist’s Qualifications and Capabilities: 2nd Stage”. European Social Fund and Lithuanian State this time funded the project together with 2,3 million Litas. 26 programs in 3 learning fields (museology, administration and management and foreign languages) have been created and implemented. Museums for partnership in the project have been selected on the basis of the largest tourist flows. There were Lithuanian National Museum, Maironis Lithuanian Literature Museum, Trakai History Museum, Lithuanian Theatre, Music, and Cinema Museum, Lithuanian Sea Museum, Open Air Museum of Lithuania, Alytus Local Lore Museum, Biržai Area Museum, Birštonas Museum, Druskininkai Museum, Kaunas City Museum, Molėtai Area Museum, Panevėžys Local Lore Museum, M. and K. Petrauskai Lithuanian Music Museum and Zanavykai Area Museum.
